ReadingBBA.org History
Founded in 1959 as the Reading and Berks Basketball Old-Timers, Inc., the Reading Berks Basketball Association has a long history of supporting basketball in the local community.
- In 1992, the organization contributed more than $35,000 to the building of the Olivet's Oakbrook Boys and Girls Clubs.
- It sponsors the Berks Basketball Hall of Fame, which will induct its sixteenth class at the Santander Arena in February, 2023.
- It annually awards the Dr. Richard Kleppinger Award to the most outstanding senior boys basketball player at the Winter Shindig usually held in March.
- The RBBA awards $2000 to at least five deserving student-athletes at its annual June meeting of the Board of Directors.
- As of 2023, there are approximately 600 members of the RBBA.
- The RBBA participates in selection of "Bob Harbach Officiating Award".
- The organization holds two general membership meetings each year, and bestows Distinguished Achievement Awards at both.
- It financially supports the West Reading Basketball League Cultural Exchange program with Sacramento, CA.
- Participates in the Dr. Richard P. Flannery Memorial Award.
- Supports “Coaches vs. Cancer” with the 18 Berks County school districts and Suits & Sneakers with Albright College and Alvernia University
